Read the passage again and answer the questions.

1. What were the students like in Grade7? 

They were all so full of energy and thirsty for knowledge.

2. How have the students changed? 

They are now talented young adults who are full of hope for the future.

3. Who should the students thank and why?

They should thank the important people in their lives – their parents, teachers and friends – because these are the people who have helped and supported them.

4. What will senior high be like? 

Life in senior high will be harder and they will have many difficult tasks ahead of them.

5. How should the students deal with the future?

They should learn from their mistakes and never give up, choose wisely and be responsible for their own decisions and actions, and not forget where they came from.

6. What advice would you give to students who are just starting junior high school?

Language points

1.First of all, I’d like to congratulate all the students who are here today.

congratulate作及物動詞, 意為“祝賀”,常用于以下結(jié)構(gòu): 

congratulate sb.

congratulate sb. on (doing) sth.

在某方面祝賀某人。如:

I want to congratulate you with all my heart.

Jane congratulated me warmly on my new job.

Sandy congratulated Bob on winning the table tennis game.

2.  You were all so full of energy and thirsty for knowledge.

be thirsty for意為“渴望;渴求”,常構(gòu)成

be thirsty for doing sth 渴望做某事

be thirsty for sth  渴望得到某物。

如:

Young man should be thirsty for knowledge. 

年輕人應(yīng)該渴望知識。 

3. But along with difficulties, there will also be many exciting things waiting for you.

along with可以表示“連同;與……一起(一道)”, 

當(dāng)連接兩個主語時, 謂語動詞的數(shù)應(yīng)和along with

前面的那個主語保持一致。  如:

Mom sent me some money along with her letter.

He along with his two friends is going to Hong Kong next month.

還可以表示“除……以外(還)”。如:

Along with their parents, these children hardly see anyone.
