1.Earthquakes usually come without warning.
without為介詞,意為“沒有”,后面跟動詞時要用動名詞形式,也可跟名詞或代詞。
2.Stay calm as the earth begins to shake and move.
stay calm意為“保持鎮(zhèn)靜”。stay在此處為系動詞,意為“保持……的狀態(tài)”。calm為形容詞,意為“平靜的,鎮(zhèn)靜的”,用在stay后作表語。
【辨析】shake,move
(1)shake為動詞,意為“顫抖,搖動”。還可以作名詞,意為“搖動,抖動”,其過去式為shook。
(2)move用作及物動詞時,意為“移動”。也可用作不及物動詞,還可表示“搬家,感動”。
3.An earthquake is dangerous,but there are things you can do to protect yourself.
本句中to protect yourself為動詞不定式作目的狀語。
4.You need to have something strong around you to protect you from falling objects.
protect為及物動詞,意為“保護”,其名詞形式為protection。常用結(jié)構(gòu)protect sth./sb. from doing sth.意為“保護……不受……之害”。
5.The kitchen is dangerous because there are so many glass objects.
