1.Once upon a time,there was a large,lovely garden.
once upon a time意為“從前,很久以前”,也可以說(shuō):long ago/long,long ago或者a long time ago等,這是講故事常用的開(kāi)頭語(yǔ)。
2.Its trees were filled with singing birds.
句中be filled with意為“充滿(mǎn)”,其中的filled是動(dòng)詞fill的過(guò)去分詞,起形容詞作用,用在系動(dòng)詞be后作表語(yǔ),此結(jié)構(gòu)在意義上與be full of同義。
3.How happy they were!
本句為感嘆句,其構(gòu)成為:How+形容詞/副詞+主語(yǔ)+謂語(yǔ)!
4.“What are you doing here?”the giant cried in a loud voice.
in a loud voice意為“大聲地”,與in a high voice同義,反義短語(yǔ)為in a low voice,意為“低聲地”。
5.They ran away and dared not come back.
run away意為“逃跑,走掉,逃脫”。
dare在這里作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,通常用于疑問(wèn)句或否定句中。dare not意為“不敢”,后接動(dòng)詞原形。在肯定句中常用其實(shí)義動(dòng)詞的用法,后常接動(dòng)詞不定式。
