情態(tài)動詞(一)
課堂要點(diǎn)精析
一、概述
情態(tài)動詞表示說話人的語氣或情緒，如可能、意愿、猜測、義務(wù)、需要等。
情態(tài)動詞有以下特征：
1．有一定的詞義，但不能單獨(dú)作謂語，后面接動詞原形。
2．沒有人稱和數(shù)的變化(have to 除外)。
3．多數(shù)情態(tài)動詞都有過去式，如can—could，may—might, will—would, dare—dared等。情態(tài)動詞的“時(shí)態(tài)”并不是區(qū)分時(shí)間的主要標(biāo)志。很多情況下，情態(tài)動詞的原形和過去式都可用于多種時(shí)態(tài)。
二、情態(tài)動詞的基本用法
1．can與could的用法
(1)表示能力，常譯為“能，會”。could是can的過去式，表示過去的能力。
◆I can speak English and French, but I can’t speak Japanese.
我會講英語和法語，但是不會講日語。
◆When she was 8 years old, she could play the piano very well.
當(dāng)她八歲時(shí)，她就能很好地彈鋼琴了。
(2)表示許可或請求(在陳述句中屬于“許可”，在疑問句中屬于“請求”)，常譯為“可以”；could比can的語氣更加委婉。
◆—Can/Could I use your computer？(請求允許)
——我可以用一下你的電腦嗎？
—Of course, you can.(表示允許)
——當(dāng)然可以。
(3)表示推測，意為“可能”，常用于否定句和疑問句中。
◆—Can the lady over there be our boss?
——在那邊的那位女士可能是我們的老板嗎？
—It can’t be her.I saw our boss in the office just now.
——不可能是她。我剛剛看見我們的老板在辦公室里。
◆My glasses aren’t here.Where can I have put them?
我的眼鏡不在這里。我可能把它們放哪兒了呢？
must和have to的區(qū)別
(1)二者都是“必須”的意思，have to表示客觀的需要，must表示說話人主觀上的看法，即主觀的必要。
◆We must finish the work before lunch. 我們必須在午飯前完成這項(xiàng)工作。(強(qiáng)調(diào)有義務(wù)早完成工作，不要拖延。)
◆We have to finish the work before lunch.
我們必須在午飯前完成這項(xiàng)工作。(強(qiáng)調(diào)客觀情況迫使，如不完成就會……，是不得已而為之。)
(2)在否定結(jié)構(gòu)中，don’t have to表示“不必”，mustn’t表示“禁止”。

文體感知
推薦信是向別人推薦某人、某物或某地，讓對方接受自己的想法、主張。推薦理由要語氣恰當(dāng)，禮貌當(dāng)先。同時(shí)，推薦信要簡潔明確、理由充足，具有合理性和說服力。一般使用“三段式”寫作。通常包括：
第一段：說明寫信目的；
第二段：闡明推薦理由；
第三段：表達(dá)希望對方接受自己的推薦并期盼回復(fù)。
