語(yǔ)法精析

一、基本特征

1.情態(tài)動(dòng)詞有一定的詞義,不能單獨(dú)作謂語(yǔ),需和實(shí)義動(dòng)詞或系動(dòng)詞一起作謂語(yǔ)。

She can speak English though she is six.盡管她才6歲,但她會(huì)說(shuō)英語(yǔ)。

2.情態(tài)動(dòng)詞一般無(wú)人稱和數(shù)的變化,個(gè)別情態(tài)動(dòng)詞有現(xiàn)在時(shí)和過(guò)去時(shí)兩種時(shí)態(tài)變化。

They must be in the classroom.他們一定在教室里。

3.構(gòu)成否定句時(shí),not放在其后面。

The young man can’t carry the big stone.這個(gè)年輕人搬不動(dòng)那塊大石頭。

4.情態(tài)動(dòng)詞后接動(dòng)詞原形。

You will do as I told you.你得照我說(shuō)的去做。

二、基本用法

1.can與be able to

(1)can只有現(xiàn)在時(shí)和過(guò)去時(shí)(could),而be able to則有更多的時(shí)態(tài)變化,在將來(lái)時(shí)、完成時(shí)和非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞中只能用be able to。

(2)can一般指自身具有的能力,而be able to則表示經(jīng)過(guò)一段時(shí)間的努力后所具有的能力,相當(dāng)于manage to do或succeed in doing。

(3)在否定結(jié)構(gòu)中was/were able to與could沒(méi)有區(qū)別。

This time I failed in the exam,but I’ll be able to pass the exam next time.

這次我考試不及格,但下次考試我能及格。(經(jīng)過(guò)努力)

She ran fast but she couldn’t/wasn’t able to catch the bus.

她跑得很快可還是沒(méi)能趕上公交車(chē)。

2.need的用法

(1)need作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞時(shí),后跟動(dòng)詞原形,表示“需要,有必要”,無(wú)人稱和數(shù)的變化,多用于疑問(wèn)句、否定句或條件句中。

—Need I finish the work today?

—Yes,you must/have to./No,you needn’t.

——我需要今天干完這活嗎?

——是的,你必須干完。/不用,你不必干完。

There’s plenty of time.You needn’t drive so fast.

時(shí)間很充足,你不必開(kāi)這么快。

注意:由need引起的一般疑問(wèn)句,肯定回答常用must或have to;否定回答常用needn’t。

(2)作實(shí)義動(dòng)詞

need作實(shí)義動(dòng)詞時(shí),后可接名詞、動(dòng)名詞、不定式等,有人稱、時(shí)態(tài)和數(shù)的變化。

The bike needs repairing.

=The bike needs to be repaired.

這輛自行車(chē)需要修理。
